Watkins Authors

How can you help the campaign?

Acknowledge the difficulty

First, we want to acknowledge how hard this is for Watkins authors.

We write because we believe in the transformative power of books, and we want our writing to be read.

But the revelations about Watkins CEO and ties to Israeli military technology have created a deep ethical conflict for authors who want an end to the genocide and freedom for Palestinians.

You’re not alone

Others are taking action, and we can bring our collective voices to bear.

Make a public statement

Post your support for the campaign on Instagram and tag @BoycottWatkins as a collaborator.

You can also sign and share our joint statement via the link in bio.

Every author who speaks out makes the campaign stronger, and increases pressure for our three core demands.

Pause promotion

Our understanding of Watkins contracts is that you are not legally obliged to promote your book.

You can choose to stop sharing, appearing at events, or platforming your work

Request a rights reversion

You can formally request that Watkins revert the rights to your book on ethical grounds.

Use the statement via the link in our bio in order to evidence why you want to withdraw your book.

Redirect your future royalties

Most authors with publishers like Watkins earn modestly. A 2022 Society of Authors report found UK authors average just £7,000–£11,000 a year.

But if you are earning royalties, consider donating future income to Palestinian aid organisations or campaign groups like the Palestine Solidarity Campaign and Stop the War.

We stand with authors

We know these choices aren’t easy. Most writers earn little from their work, and face real risks when speaking out.

But no one should be forced to stay silent, or be tied to a publisher whose profits may be linked to violence and occupation.

This campaign is about collective support, informed decisions, and building new forms of solidarity in publishing for the benefit of all.
